Click to Buy Video Providers

A Get Elastic reader left a comment on last month’s post Youtube Experimenting with Video Ecommerce which talked about the emerging capabilities to use click-to-buy links in video.

I checked out Jeff Muir’s company VideoInfusion and grabbed this live demo starring Tiger Woods and Nike gear to show you what the platform can do:

Rolling over a hotspot shows a link to a product page.

Last summer we also reported Bluefly and SeenON! using click-to-buy merchandising with video. Thanks to our commenters, we now know that Bluefly uses Factory 515 for their videos. Other players in this space include Allurent, Ooyala and Innovid.

And earlier this week, VideoRetailer.org also reported Tailgate Technologies has created a fully transactional video widget.

Please comment if you know of any other providers in this space. Or if you have used one of these companies before, let us know where we can check out your videos in action.

    I like these product videos http://tinyurl.com/9aszpe on lkbennett.com

    Created by http://www.productmagnet.com/. You can select each item of an outfit to buy…

  2. This click-to-buy feature might be practical and convenient for advertisers, but don’t you think it goes a little too far? It seems like they haven’t really considered it from a consumer’s viewpoint – it’s actually quite annoying to watch because the video is constantly interrupted by these ads. People don’t like interruptions; they like advertisements to be embedded, in a place where they can get to them if need be – but it’s usually a turnoff when ads force themselves into consumers’ lives.

  3. Does anyone ever buy stuff from a click-to-buy video link? Come to think of it, I never heard a single person tell me that actually…
    Well, it’s all about the lon trail I suppose! ;-)

    @Michael – Thanks!

    @Rachel – Actually, this is a screencast I created myself using the tool – when I rolled over hotspots, the descriptions and links appeared. The user doesn’t have to see the pop ups if they don’t roll over hotspots. Also, these are product videos, so they are demos of products like makeup tutorials, or “Shopisodes” for As Seen On Screen where you can show a celebrity wearing an item and the viewer can click to buy. I think it’s amazing.
