Ecommerce Gone Wild
Here’s a cute little promo for the soon-to-launch Dutch online store Hema.
This innovative marketing effort is a pinball-machine styled product page where animated products tumble and spill and drop and pop. Good, clean viral fun to kick off your weekend.
I’m also pleased to see that the term “ghettoblaster” transcends linguistic boundaries.

The website was launched in July and got quite some criticism in the Netherlands the way it looked (and the sitemap on the bottom of every page).
Now with this great-looking “The incredible Machine style” flash, they are getting back on top!
Nice viral, but you quickly realise that there is no way to navigate in this Flash site and there is no clear indication where to navigate to. Only after the animation is finished there is an indication where to go, but still focussed on sending the animation to friends. Briefly, good for brand awareness but a low call-to-action.
Yes, it’s non-functional for now, but sure beats an “under-construction” page. Who knows if people “turn off” forever if they are frustrated that they can’t click on anything now, but hopefully they just think it’s cool and sign up for notification when the store launches (can’t read Dutch to verify that they have that offer)???
The location is only for the video.
