Emails Using Calls-To-Auction
Many retailers use auction marketplaces like eBay to sell various items including overstock, clearance, returned and slightly damaged merchandise. Others like American Apparel and Urban Outfitters use it to sell their vintage clothing inventory through California Select and Urban Renewal, respectively.

@Linda –
I find that email strategy quite fascinating (and original). I’m curious as to what the subject lines were. Also, do you know if these emails were segmented/targeted? Did everyone on “the list” get them or…..?
Thanks in advance for the follow up!

Hi Linda,
I’d like to see more examples of custom emails sent out by ebay sellers and like dj info on the strategies being used – don’t suppose you feel another post coming on :)

I am subscribed to the California Select campaign. I doubt they send these emails to regular American Apparel subscribers. Urban Outfitters’ email was not totally eBay related and was sent to its entire list.
I have clicked through on UO’s emails but not converted to purchase, so I may be segmented or may not be. There is no way to tell ;)
I haven’t seen eBay only sellers building email lists through eBay stores – mind you I haven’t looked into it either.
In eBay selling Manager enables you to email your buyers individually or in bulk from the Sold View, Archived View, and the sales record for a listing. They can also use templates to email your buyers so that they don’t always have to re-type the same messages.
