What’s most interesting to me is the increase in social sign on from last year to this year — at the expense of guest checkout. Though only 40% of consumers indicate they prefer social sign on to creating an account the 1.0 way, consider the impact of making 40% of site visitors’ sign up process easier by offering this option.

  1. I have been silently following the trend of this alternate login and found out that it helps. People want convenience and one-step procedure so the integration meets their satisfaction. I think it follows the principle of .net passport except that this time, it is cross domain.

  2. I hadn’t thought about social login before, but it could potentially solve a lot of problems for us! Guest checkout has always been somewhat of a conundrum as it allegedly reduces abandonment, but is a hassle for us as a retailer when it comes to after-the-sale service. Without an account, it’s a lot harder for customers to check their order status and re-order, and our shopping cart (Magento) makes customer management in the back-end much more difficult, too. Hopefully, social login continues to gain popularity and support!
