In fact in 2008, it was so. But now Google pays much more attention to the content.

Great webinar, thanks Jason and Linda.<br

An excellent, concise recap of a great webinar. You really live the spirit of "over-delivering".
As far as duplicate content is concerned, Google must have built adjustments into its algorithm to consider ecommerce websites, because you cant help generate duplicate content when you are selling multiple versions of the same product.
At worst, Google would probably just ignore the duplication in the context of the type of site it is looking at.

Thanks Jason and Linda;

An excellent, concise recap of a great webinar. We do think that our service is simple for consumers to use and simple for retailers to deploy. But we think of it as a little bit more than a "simple notification service." Sure, we can let a consumer know when a new item in a favorite brand comes in or goes on sale. But we do much more -- abandoned shopping cart follow ups, ratings and review requests, cross sells after the purchase and much more. Oh, and we do cross sells and upsells on the retailers site(s) too. Product page. Cart page. Search results. Any page they like. All personalized.
Whether retailers use us or not, they might find some of our research on consumer preferences useful. There's research from the eTailing Group, Harris Poll and more. The Harris Poll summary is here: http://www.mybuys.com/news_events/pr-mybuys_study.php
And the eTailing Group study is available from our home page: www.mybuys.com

Hi Jason and Linda. Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results. If your site suffers from duplicate content issues, and you don't follow the advice listed above, we do a good job of choosing a version of the content to show in our search results.
--> We actually found Google often lists more than one domain even when the content is near identical. This is especially true for sites with different TLDs.

From the post you mentioned:

Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results. I am not so sure about the duplicate content issue you raised above - Google issued recent clarifications about this matter that is a worth a read - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html

Great post guys.
