New Ecommerce Blog By Retailers For Retailers
A new online retail blog has just launched, but this one has a twist. It’s not by online retailer for consumers, but by online retailer for online retailers.
PlumberSurplus’ Ecommerce and Entrepreneurship Blog is penned (rather, typed) by its employees who share development issues, human resources, customer service, supply chain management, search marketing and more.
Other than a link from PlumberSurplus.com’s footer menu, the blog isn’t promoted on its ecommerce store. I haven’t had the chance to ask PlumberSurplus what their goals for this approach rather than a consumer focused blog, but it’s nice to see an eTailer giving back to the ecommerce community. I think it’s a great idea and I’ve subscribed.

This is sooo good. I have always wanted a retailer to take this on. I have seen pockets of folk involved in retail make a post or two about their experiences; a few system integrators or agencies involved with retail clients; and of course vendors (like us) serving the retail space - but this is fantastic. Cudos to the PlumberSurplus folks! Keep it coming. Wanna do a webinar?
Very cool. I will definitely keep them on my radar.
Thanks so much for the post Linda. Jason contact me about doing a webinar and we can discuss further. For those who are wondering why we decided to go this route, I think the explanation is simple. We are a retailer, yes, but are really ecommerce nerds at heart. We have often sat in the conference room discussing our future plans and current projects, and thought to ourselves “This information could be useful to others in our space”. So we finally decided to start blogging about it.
Linda thanks for posting about us!
We have been thinking about a blog like this for a while now. We realized that there were not many internet retailers like ourselves talking about their experiences and opinions. After much discussion internally we came to the conclusion that we could benefit the industry, help others and bring value to our website by sharing that information. Many of our employees are excited about the blog and we have some great posts rolling in so make sure to check back to see what people are writing about.
Jason, send me an e-mail, we would love to do a webinar.
That’s great. I’m sure you’ll also get a lot more links pointing to your blog than if it was a B2C effort. That’s kinda just the way it goes. Would make a nice case study on how it impacts your SEO, which is already quite solid but no one can rest on their laurels :D
There’s relatively few ecommerce blogs out there (well, compared to advertising, SEO or PR) and we’re all quite happy to link to eachother and subscribe to each others’ feeds.
