If you want to subscribe to a feed that just shows "toys" my site offers just that thing. We parse the consumer products safety feed (among others) and put all of the toy recalls into their own category. Just click the RSS subscription icon on our site and choose "Toy Recalls".
One last word of advice: Because certain sites, such as ours, are dedicated to content about recalls, you may not be able to get pages up and ranking on your ecommerce site in time to respond. I would advise you to have a dedicated page about recalls that stays up all the time. That way you aren't trying to get a new page indexed and ranking each time a recall comes out. You can easily change the title, headers, content, etc. to address the current recalls without losing the page rank and trust accrued on that particular page.

Great post with excellent advice. Google adwords can also be used to reach people googling a recalled product, and recalls are searchable on phones at http://safetoy.mobi - it's easier to check your own toy than flood your inbox with all those alerts that you won't read.

Hi good points, keeping the discontinued item on your site with an explanation and alternative is good.
